This class is for the student who would like to learn the basics of creating a design using the flat pattern method of fashion design. Each student will be provided with drawing tools and materials to use in class. Each student should purchase a Butterick 5627 (Misses sizes) or 5628 (Women’s sizes) Basic Fitting Pattern to use the first day of class. Vogue 1004 is also the same Basic Fitting Pattern in the Misses sizes that you can purchase for this class. These are single-sized patterns, so you should choose the size that is closest to your bust size. If you are in-between two sizes, choose the smaller size. Students will need to provide the proper amount of yardage for your size of a cotton or cotton/blend fabric (absolutely no knits) and also thread. We will make a shell for your body from the pattern followed by a sloper. For the sloper you will need 3 sheets of light-colored poster board to make an individual sloper. It is imperative that the student have a knowledge of basic sewing skills before taking this course. You must know how to use a sewing machine, measure, lay out and cut fabric, put in darts and seams correctly. There will be some sewing homework in this class.
You will receive a registration form when you email. You should then send in the registration form with a deposit or full payment to reserve your spot. The registration form link is given above. You do not need to bring a sewing machine to this class.
